Selling your art is a very different activity than creating it. The reasons for selling your work may be very different too. You will save yourself a lot of trouble and hard feelings the more clearly you understand your reasons for selling art.

Selling your art can come from an array of reasons. Your reasons could include any of the various money/material related desires. You may also enjoy the ego boost that a sale can bring. You may like to exhibit your work, be the object of attention yourself at an exhibition, or be the artist in the community.

Selling has many other possible reasons. You may have altruistic concerns of educating the public or providing beautiful pieces for the market. Some artists want sell so they can finance the acceptance of their style.

Selling art is not an easy thing to do for most people. Finding buyers, collectors, the right gallery, choosing a group of artists or a museum to align with can be time consuming and a daunting endeavor. Going to shows, art festivals, publishing ads or announcements, establishing a website, offering newspaper or television interviews, etc. are not to every artist's liking.

Eventually you will make decisions as to how you will sell your work. You will decide which parts of selling you want to do for yourself and which parts you will leave to someone else.

Learn Casino Craps - Adapt to a Cold Craps Table

Sometimes, a craps table goes cold where points and numbers just don't hit. The normal distribution takes a crazy turn, but instead of turning in the player's favor, it turns in the casino's favor. For example, let's look at flipping a coin. The normal distribution over time shows that we expect heads to appear 50% of the time and tails to appear 50% of the time. What if the short-term distribution variance shows that in the last 50 flips, 45 resulted in tails and only 5 resulted in heads. If we had bet on heads for those 50 flips, we would have lost our shirts. The same scenario holds true on a craps table. The short-term distribution variance will result in many more 7-outs than points made. If we had bet the Pass Line during that short-term variance, we would have lost our shirts. That scenario is called a "cold table." The distribution eventually corrects itself where the variance goes in favor of the player, which is called a "hot table." So, what do we do when the table turns ice cold? Do we simply accept it and lose all our money? Not hardly!

A cold table is easy to recognize. It's empty, quiet, and the few people still playing look depressed. Shooter after shooter establishes a point and then immediately throws a losing 7 out.

If you stubbornly make a stand and try to fight a cold table, you'll lose your entire allotment for that session in mere minutes. Even though each roll has a random outcome, the fact is that trends do, indeed, occur. An ice cold table is a trend against the player; whereas, a hot table is a trend with the player. Unless you adapt, playing a cold table is a miserable experience. You walk away a loser vowing to never play craps again. But it doesn't have to be like that.

You'll find after years of playing craps that most people insist on fighting a cold table. Why? Beats me. My only guess is that they're stubborn or stupid, or probably both. People either beat their chests like King Kong determined to stand and fight regardless of how much they lose, or they leave the table altogether. It's truly an amazing phenomenon. Instead of switching gears to play the cold table to their advantage, most people are so stubborn or stupid that they just won't adapt.

Without going into volumes of statistical theory, the fact is that cold streaks appear just as hot streaks do. The key is to recognize them and adapt. For example, suppose you walk up to a table with only two people playing. It's the only table with open spots. The other three tables are packed and people are standing on the sides waiting to play. You ask the dealer how the table is. He says it's colder than heck. Both players at the table are playing the Pass Line. Two quick 7-outs in a row. The players cuss, moan, and complain how the craps gods never give them a break. You wonder if you want to get in on the action now, even though it's obviously a cold table, or go to one of the other tables and wait for an open spot. Your plane just landed and your Vegas vacation just started, so you want some immediate action. You don't want to go stand by one of the other tables and wait. You want to play now. So, do you stay at the cold table?

Suppose you're like most people and prefer playing the Pass Line. In the above scenario, you have three options: 1) Stay, beat your chest like King Kong, fight the cold table, and probably lose, 2) Leave and wait for an open spot at another table, or 3) Stay at this cold table and adapt your play. I never choose option 1. I usually choose option 3.

Indeed, no one on Earth can ever know how the dice will fall (assuming legal dice are used). But, again, trends do occur (i.e., hot streaks and cold streaks). They just do. Once you experience a few of them, you'll understand and be able to recognize them. So, how can you win when the distribution variance turns against the player? The answer is simple--you adapt.

Bet with the number 7 instead of against it (i.e., play the Don't Pass instead of the Pass Line). Always keep the Don't Pass bet in your hip pocket as a weapon against the casino when the dice are landing in casino's favor. You might think, "That doesn't make sense because the outcome of each roll is random and the cold streak can end at any time, and by the time I recognize a cold streak, it'll be over." That can, indeed, happen. But that's why you slow down your play and become a stronger rock. During a cold streak, don't think about winning big. Don't even think about winning at all. Your objective is to ride out the cold streak and get back on track playing the Pass Line. Eventually the distribution variance will correct itself (i.e., the cold streak will end). You'll recognize the correction and adapt your play again to the Pass Line. As you gain experience in recognizing trends and reversals, you'll find yourself not only successfully riding out the cold streaks, but you might consistently come out of them a few bucks ahead.

Auctions at eBay are not the only source of Super Bowl tickets. Any search at a search engine will produce dozens of ticket sellers where people can buy tickets without having the unpredictability of an auction's final price. Prices are high across the board. At Ticket Master's website, a deluxe four-night trip with hotel suite accommodations that includes two tickets at the club level to 15 yard line costs a whopping $15,384 for two people. A woman craps dealer faces many trials from both players and co-workers, but the toughest test is always dealing your first Super Bowl. In Las Vegas, Super Bowl Sunday is the biggest weekend of the year. It’s big money and no nonsense. New Year’s Eve is for revelers and Super Bowl is for the gamblers. They come. They all come, and every craps dealer better know his or her business.

It was 1996 when my first Super Bowl Sunday went into overtime. I was working at the Flamingo Hilton on the Strip and the dice tables were packed. A craps game normally holds eight people to a side, but nine to ten people were storming both walls until dawn.

Craps is traditionally a men’s game, dealt by men and supervised by men. And this night I had entered the boys’ club and locked the door behind me. When not on stick, I was dealing first base on my table, which is the right side from the perspective of the pit crew, and I looked out onto a rocky masculine shore of horseshoe rings, heavy gold watches, polo shirts and cigars. At five three and one hundred twenty pounds, I felt small but that was the least of my worries. Keeping all these players’ bets straight and properly paid was my way to stay on their good sides.

Normally a craps game is only jammed up like a thirty-car wreck on foggy Los Angeles freeway when the players are winning. But when a casino is full of experienced craps players with bulging wallets, the craps game will be pounded with bets as everyone puts their personal style of play into action.
I had plenty of line bets with odds and of course a don’t pass player. A half dozen players were placing and pressing the six and eight while a couple other guys were betting the numbers across. The across bettors were playing come bets as well and using the winnings from their place bets to fund their odds on their come bets. And then a guy had to get in there and start buying lay bets against the nine and the six, so I had commissions to figure out.

And just when I felt like I was going to get in the zone and stay on top of things, a man in a black shirt bellies up to the table and tosses three thousands dollars onto the blue felt of the Flamingo’s table, challenging the casino to a duel. I don’t remember much after that, except not getting fired.

Dealing that Super Bowl Sunday game in Las Vegas in my rookie year as a craps dealer moved my game up a notch. I was a better dealer for the experience, and I had proved to my co-workers and my players that a lady dealer could handle the boys’ game just fine.

Learn to Play Casino Craps - The 3-Way Craps, Over 7, and Under 7 Bets

Be smart, play smart, learn how to play casino craps the right way!

3-Way Craps is like Any Craps in that it's a one-roll bet that wins if a 2, 3, or 12 appears and loses with any other number. However, it's actually three separate one-roll bets disguised as one: a bet on the 2, a bet on the 3, and a bet on the 12. Therefore, your 3-Way Craps bet amount should be divisible by three. For example, if you make a $6 3-Way Craps bet, the dealer puts $2 on the 2, $2 on the 3, and $2 on the 12. The minimum bet amount for each of the three numbers (i.e., 2, 3, and 12) is the value of the lowest-denomination chip in play at the table, usually $1. So, since your bet amount should be divisible by three, the smallest 3-Way Craps bet you can make is $3.

The 3-Way Craps bet is controlled by the stickman, so keep your hands off. The 2, 3, and 12 boxes are clearly marked in the proposition area. When you have the stickman's attention, gently toss your chips to an open area near the center of the table and say, "Three-way Craps, please." Aim for an empty spot on the table so your chips don't mess up other chips on the table.

If a 2 shows, the payoff is 30:1; and your 3 and 12 lose. If a 12 shows, the payoff is 30:1; and your 2 and 3 lose. If a 3 shows, the payoff is 15:1; and your 2 and 12 lose. Note that there are two ways to make a 3 (i.e., 1-2 and 2-1) and only one make to make a 2 (i.e., 1-1) or 12 (i.e., 6-6). Therefore, the payoff for the 3 is half the payoff for the 2 or 12.

The Over 7 and Under 7 bets are rare one-roll bets that you probably won't see unless you play in a lot of different casinos. The Over 7 bet wins if an 8, 9, 10, 11, or 12 shows on the next roll; and loses if any other number shows, including 7. This article, literally, is a lesson in the art of Occult transpositions. Occult transpositions take many shapes and forms, from morphing mythologies to literal mathematical ciphers encoded into seemingly "everyday" words. The idea of transpositions is very well understood in the Initiated Systems and it is further well known and discussed that there are various transpositions occuring between "sacred nomenclatures" as these nomenclatures are being "passed", or "encoded", from race to race.

The "Goddess Isis", for instance, is known as "the Lady of 10,000 names". Her primary name is "Isis", which some equate to as "throne", but we can transpose to "North" as it is Isis whom we seek to guide us through the darkness for when we require guidance while walking in the "night", we first seek out "the North Star" in order to gather our bearings.. She is also known as the OWL, which we can transpose to the number TWO - if you understand the nature of how to effect the transpositions.

It is all incredibly simple further once you are able to grasp into the nature of the apperception of the conceptual. For instance, when we view the picture of Hathor, a transposition of Isis, we note many things, but draw your attention to the design of the "hair". Not only does "Isis" maintain as her suit the "Swords", themselves a sign for the "air", while Pentacles represent Earth, Wands as fire, and Cups as Water, we note that within the word "hair" is the word "air".

The word AIR we may reverse to form the word RAI(SE), for it is the Mind as Intellect as Isis that "raises us up from darkness and ignorance". Within the phonetics of "raise" may be found the phonetics of "reason" equally, and so it becomes no secret of basic scholarship into "Shakespeare" that oft "raisen" was used as a phonetic code for "reason".

The Master Number 11011

If you understood the "Secret of AJK", or the playing cards, you would fully comprehend by now that what is being encoded in the Ace, Jack, and King (AJK) is the Master Number, or 11011, or in short, "11:11". This number is known as "snake eyes" on the "craps table". When you have "snake eyes" showing, you simply have to go "to the belly of the serpent", for the cube or di remain one of the primary encodement "stones".

When we sum the value from 1:11, we arrive at the following digits:

1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9+10+11=66

This is a basic transposition. 6's may be 1's and 1's may be 6's.

Hence in the logo for "FOX", the F is a "6" as it is clearly set at number 6 of the Alphabet, while X is placed at number 11 of the second half of the Alphabet. Never mind that it is essentially a glyph of two "1's" set on diagonals to each other: the obvious you are not supposed to be able to see.

Since X is "11", and F is 6, and since "11" may be "66", then the code of FOX has a gematria value of 6066, or 6*6*6*10=2160.

6*6*6*10, or "2160" (note this number in the formation of "The Esoteric Formula of the Heart" wherein there are precisely "21 "6's" in the formation of the word HEART from 884) is a basic "astronomic constant" used by the Illuminatus in encoding various hinge or foundation points.

This number is the diameter of the moon in miles or the time period of 1 sign of the Zodiac. Hence "6" of these numbers relative to the Zodiac would be the time period of the Sun's precession through 1/2 of the signs of the Zodiac, hence the formula of 6*6*10*6*6 = 12,960 years.

Again. The number 12960 when placed back against the Alphabet reveals the code of LIFE. There are special properties to "E" as it is the "5th Letter" or the "5th Amendment", and hence has a "right to remain silent".

5 = 1+2+3+4+5 = 15 = O Letter or 0 Number and hence "no sound".

That E can be either a "5" or a "0" number is just another part of the larger transposition logic in play.

The Sun as Masculine or Feminine

Another interesting transposition is the morphing of the Sun from a "feminine" energy to a "masculine" energy. The astrological sign for Leo, for instance, is really but the outline of the hair of "Hathor".

Many cultures have regarded the Sun as being of the Feminine, although in Masonic constructions, it oft becomes necessary to formulate the Sun as being Masculine. As late as 1861, there was a magazine in publication called "Blackwood's Edinburgh Magazine". In Volume LXXXIX (89) (you can find whate'er esoteric meaning you wish for this number), on page 715, in a piece titled "From the Fatherland", the author states:

"My Dear Irenaeus - I think you will agree with me that that useful luminary, the sun ought to always be of the masculine gender. I happen to inhabit at present a country where the sun is feminine. The Germans gallantly say, that because the sun is more beautiful than the moon, their chivalrous forefathers inverted the classical notion of their genders and made him a lady and her a gentleman."

Aside from the obvious view of the Sun as a feminine energy being held in Western constructs quite late in the historical trail, there is still further insights that indeed, females may sometimes be caste as male and male be caste as female in so far as the esoteric coding is concerned.

The word SUN provides us with a rather unique insight into the above statement.

The Letter S is located at number 3

The Letter N is located at number 5

The Letter U is the missing part of the mathematical cipher, for it is placed at position 5 under this cipher pattern. However, we also know that the Letter U is the 21'st letter of the Alphabet, and the sum of 1:6 = 21, or the U letter, hence we can reason pretty confidently that the proper formula for the word SUN is as follows:

S=3

U=6 (1+2+3+4+5+6=21=U letter)

N=5

Note, again, the use of the "21"-"6" sequence. This is used so often that it defies why it has not been discovered before.

So we can see that the SUN is simply a CODE FOR 365, or the number of days that the EARTH revolves around "the SUN". 365 is a "corelational circle number", and hence is a feminine number, and thus this would make the word SUN a "Feminine deity".

The Sign of LEO mirrors that of the Hair of Hathor. Yet there is more to the code of LEO.

LEO the LION and The Sun

Let us now complete the exercise or lesson by showing the precise transposition of the word LEO and LION. As shown in the Isisian Codes:

The Letter L = 3

The Letter E = 5

The Letter O = 6

The Illuminatus has a very practical cipher known as "5=6". Take column 6 of the Isisian Codes. What word is revealed? FV? Five. It is a "favorite". 5's are 6's. Note the design similarity between E and F (5 and 6), as well as "5" and "6" equally. Even the words FIVE and SIX are showing precise design parallels.

S=3=1+2+3=6

IX=9

S(IX)=69

The word FIVE, too, is a cipher for 69.

F=6

IV=4

E=5

F=6

IV+E=4+5=9

(F)(IV+E)=69

5's and 6's are interchangeable. So if we have a word as LEO with a value as follows:

L=3

E=5

O=6

And, we know that 5's and 6's are interchangeable, we can simply show that LEO is a CODE for

L=3

E=6

O=5

LEO = 365 = SUN

So all that is left is to solve for LION. Here again we have the mathematical formula already half evident. LI is "1/2" of the word LI(FE). Since E = O = N, we can simply cipher these letters to reveal the following:

L=12=L

I=9=I

O=6=F

N=5=E

So the code LEO the LION is simple a code that says "The Sun is Life"!

Very simple. Very clever. And indeed, incredibly ingenious.

How about the secrets of hard way betting?

Most crapshooters know that the hard ways have high payoffs - the six or eight pays 9:1 and the four or ten pays 7:1. But hard way numbers (4, 6, 8 & 10) only pay off when two identical numbers are rolled. This means you will only win if 2&2, 3&3, 4&4, or 5&5 are rolled.

The 1&1 (2) or 6&6 (12) do not count as a hard way, because that is the only way they can roll.

If you bet on a hard six, you only win if the combination is 3 & 3. You lose if the combination is 4 & 2, 5 & 1, 2 & 4, and 1 & 5. On a hard eight, you only win if the roll is 4 & 4. You lose if it is 2 & 6, 3 & 5, 5 & 3 and 6 & 2. So of the five ways to make a six or eight, four are soft ways and only one is hard. The hard four must roll 2 & 2 to win. You lose on a 1 & 3 or 3 & 1. The hard ten must roll 5 & 5. You lose on a 4 & 6 or a 6 & 4. So of the three ways to make a 4 or 10, two are soft and only one is hard.

The true odds of the hard 6/8 are 10:1 but the payoff is only 9:1, giving the casino a 9% edge. And the true odds on the 4/10 are 8:1 but the payoff is only 7:1, giving the casino a 11% edge. But, since the hard 6/8 rolls once and the hard 4/10 also rolls once, why are the odds different? And if each hard number rolls the same amount (one in 36) as the 2 and 12, why aren’t the odds identical? The payoff for the 2/12 is 30:1. Why don’t the hard ways pay higher?

When you place a bet for the 2/12, it is a one roll bet. If any number other the 2/12 rolls, you lose. Their true odds are 35:1, as they each should appear only once in 36 rolls. The hard way bets, however, stay up if anything other than a seven or an easy way rolls. Even though a hard number should roll once in 36 rolls, it stays up more often than the 2/12, which is why the payoff is lower.

Since hard ways stay up until they are hit or lose, it is easy to start a progression with them - just bet $1 each on the hard four, ten, six and eight - a total of only $4 to start out. These hard numbers each should roll once in 36 rolls. If there is a long time between sevens you could win $7 + $7 + $9 +$9 or $32 for a $4 investment.

If the seven (or the soft number) rolls you would increase your bet by $1 and put it back up. So you might have different bets on different numbers. You should also have a 30% win goal and loss limit for this hard way method. If you buy in for $500 you would quit if you win or lose approximately $150.

Some crapshooters try to minimize their losses by calling bets “off” when 6 rolls go by to help minimize sevens. The bets are also off on the come out when everyone is rooting for a seven.

Be smart, play smart, and learn how to play craps the right way!

If the casino has such an advantage over the player, why on Earth does anyone play the game? My guess is that most people don't have a clue they're playing a losing game. Others are so arrogant they think they can outplay the casino and turn a negative expectation into a positive, even over the long term. Others know they'll lose, but play anyway for fun and excitement. As a knowledgeable player, why should you even bother playing a game you know will beat you? As a knowledgeable player, is there any hope you can walk away a winner, at least once in a while, even though you're at a statistical disadvantage?

Craps is a game of numbers and statistics, with the house having a built-in advantage. Since craps is based on statistics, let's find a way to use statistics to our advantage. You'll never beat the casino over the long haul, but you can, indeed, beat it in the moments of time when the distribution hiccups and things go your way.

Let's talk about "variance," which is the average squared deviation of each number from the mean of a data set. Huh? Don't worry; we don't need a Harvard math degree to understand this. It's simply a measure of how spread out the data is. Let's consider the familiar coin-flip example.

Suppose we flip a coin 10,000 times. We expect heads to appear about 5,000 times and tails to appear about 5,000 times. Suppose we bet $1 on heads for each flip. If these are even-money bets, we expect to break even--or close to it--after those 10,000 flips. As illustrated in one of my other articles, the house doesn't give us even money when it loses. In our coin-flip example, instead of paying us $1 for each loss, suppose they pay us only $0.96. With this built-in house advantage, our negative expectation is to lose about $200 after 10,000 flips. Here's the math. If we expect about 5,000 heads and about 5,000 tails to appear, then we expect to lose 5000 x $1 = $5000; and win 5000 x $0.96 = $4800. $5000 - $4800 = $200. This is called "negative expectation."

Now, of those 10,000 flips, suppose we focus on only 30 of them, and we continue betting on heads. Of those 30 flips, we might see heads 25 times and tails only 5 times. This data fluctuation shows that, for a limited number of flips over a short period of time, we can get lucky and experience Nirvana where things go our way. I call it a "Nirvana hiccup" in the distribution that causes a relatively high variance. In this example of only 30 flips, we win $24 for the 25 heads (i.e., 25 x $0.96 = $24), and lose $5 for the 5 tails (i.e., 5 x $1 = $5), which gives us a net win of $19. This short-term variance temporarily removes the long-term negative expectation, which means there are, indeed, times when we can walk away a winner.

Although you'll lose in the long term, there are times when you'll win because of variance. Suppose you take a three-day vacation in Vegas once a year and play four one-hour craps sessions each day (i.e., a total of 12 hours for the trip). You could conceivably get extremely lucky and hit that Nirvana hiccup during each session, and then go home a big winner. In that case, you go home thinking you're a genius, a craps god, invincible, a world-class gambling stud. Yeah, sure, okay. I don't recommend quitting your day job.

Now, suppose you're a Vegas local who plays an hour every day after work. In this case, it's clear that whatever few Nirvana hiccups you experience will be properly adjusted over time such that you'll lose your shirt in the long term.

Therefore, the infrequent craps player can, indeed, consistently win if she's lucky enough to hit those Nirvana hiccups. However, the frequent long-term player has no chance of coming out a winner at the end of his craps life. Part of the secret to craps is knowing how to be around for those occasional Nirvana hiccups where the dice fall your way.

If you don't want to lose your shirt, you must learn the secret to craps. Don't fall for bogus winning systems or ridiculous dice-setting claims. Distribution variance is the only thing that makes you a short-term winner. Nothing else. No silly dice-setting technique. No bogus winning system. It's the distribution variance and nothing else. Got it? Be smart. Play smart. Learn how to play craps the right way.

Let’s look at how anyone can win at roulette.

Roulette systems don’t work

If you are thinking that you can win at roulette by buying a roulette system for money, think again!

It would be nice if they did work and we could pay a couple of hundred dollars and make a couple of hundred thousand, but life is not like that!

The reason roulette systems based on mathematical formulas, don’t help anyone win at roulette is simple:

They are based on the assumption that past data can be used to accurately predict future events.

Of course, in a game of chance you never know what will happen next, so mathematical systems cannot be applied.

If black comes up 20 times in a row or 101 times, does not change the odds of the next spin, which is always a 50 – 50 chance.

Every spin of the wheel is independent of all other spins so there is no data that can be used to predict future spins.

How to win at roulette

There are two things to consider when trying to get the best odds to win at roulette.

Play the table with the best odds

The European wheel has 37 slots with a single 0; the American wheel has an extra slot, a 00 to making 38 slots.
The house advantage is 2.7% For European wheel and 5.26% for the American wheel.

It is obvious to win at roulette you need to play the European table.

Now we have the house edge down to just 2.7%, let’s look at how to get the odds of winning a bit closer.

Play the bet with the best odds

Use bets whose odds are near to their payouts.

These "even money" bets mean betting on Even, Odd, Low, (numbers 1 through 18), High, (numbers 19 through 36), Red, or Black.

These bets pay out odds of 1: 1. and you'll find your odds of winning are about 45%, making it a sensible way to bet.

The best of all!

On many European single-zero wheels you will find a bet which takes advantage of a rule called 'en prison.'

When you make an even money bet and the ball lands on zero, you don't lose your bet. Instead, your bet is 'imprisoned', and you let carry forward to the next spin.

If your bet wins, you can then remove it from the table. The house edge here is cut in half and is just 1.35%, making it the bet with the best odds of winning for the player.

Obviously, it gets boring if you use the same bet all the time, so you can vary the above bet with bets close to the payout.

To understand why some numbers are "luckier," than others you have to understand event-odds and investment-odds. Suppose you bet on a number on a roulette wheel in your local casino. With 38 numbers on American wheels, you have a 1-in-38 probability of your number being the one that comes up, so we would say that the event-odds, which refer to the probability of a specific event happening, are 1-in-38. Except in the case of biased wheels, they will be the same for every roulette game.

Now, what if a casino paid you 40-to-1 when your number won? They normally pay 35-to-1, so which casino would you like to place your bets at if there were several to choose from? Perhaps the one that pays more? Even though the odds of your number winning haven't changed, you get paid more when you win. For example, if you Lay the 10, you hope a 7 shows before the 10; whereas, if you Buy the 10, you hope a 10 shows before the 7.

The Lay bet has the same vig as the Buy bet, but it's based on the win amount, not the bet amount. For example, suppose you Lay the 4 for $100. The true payoff odds are 1:2, which means your winning $100 Lay bet pays $50. The vig is based on the $50 winnings, not the $100 bet. So, the vig is $2 ($50 x 5% = $2.50, which is rounded down to $2), instead of $5 ($100 x 5% = $5).

Lay bets are often called "No" bets. For example, suppose you play for three hours and not a single 5 shows. You decide you're in a weird, anomalous blip of the distribution where the number 5 just isn't going to show no matter what the craps gods do. You want to take advantage of that anomaly so you drop $75 in the Come box and tell the dealer, "Give me a No five, please." The dealer moves your chips to the 5 point box and puts a LAY button on top. Lay bets are positioned in the same locations as Don't Come with Odds bets. Sure enough, the 5 doesn't show and the shooter rolls a 7-out. Your $75 Lay bet wins $50 (i.e., the true odds are 2:3, so $75 divided by 3 = $25, multiplied by 2 = $50). You must also pay the 5% vig on your winnings. To make it easier for himself, the dealer will likely give you two $25 chips for your winnings and say, "Drop me two dollars, please," rather than count out $48 in chips. In this case, you simply drop two $1 chips in the Come box and then pick up your two $25 chips.

Unlike Buy bets, Lay bets are kept on and working on the come-out roll of a new game. However, you can always turn them off and on whenever you want. Typically, players leave their Lay bets on and working for the come-out roll because they have the advantage over the house (i.e., there are always more ways to make a 7 than any of the point numbers). Another reason--a silly reason, but a reason nonetheless--is because everyone is typically rooting for a 7 on the come-out (most people play the Pass Line, so a 7 on the come-out is a winner for them). Let's look at the basic play of craps. A new game starts with the "come-out roll" where the stickman typically says, "New shooter, coming out." Once a new game starts, it continues until a "decision" is made. The decision that ends the game is whether the shooter makes his point or rolls a seven-out (7-out).

Prior to the come-out roll, the dealer places the puck in the OFF position (black side up) on the side of the table, usually near the Don't Come box. The OFF puck indicates that a new game is about to start. The shooter rolls the dice. If the shooter rolls a 2, 3, 7, 11, or 12 (either of which is called a "natural"), a decision is made immediately and the game ends with that single roll. A 2, 3, or 12 on the come-out roll is called "craps" or "crapping out." The same shooter then continues and starts a new game. If the number appearing on the come-out roll is any of the remaining possible numbers (i.e., 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10), then a point is established (these numbers are called "point" numbers). The dealer places the puck in the ON position (white side up) in the point box corresponding to the point number that the shooter establishes. So, if you walk up to a table and see an OFF puck, you know that a new game is about to start. If you see an ON puck in one of point boxes, a game is already in progress and that number is the point.

If the shooter establishes a point on the come-out roll (i.e., rolls a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10), the shooter continues rolling until she rolls the point number again or until she rolls a 7, which results in a decision and the game ends. If the shooter ends the game by rolling the point number, that same shooter keeps the dice and starts a new game. If she rolls a 7 (called a "7-out"), she loses the dice and the next shooter in line clockwise around the table starts the next new game.

Remember, a "craps" is when the shooter rolls a 2, 3, or 12 on the come-out roll; and a "7-out" is when the shooter establishes a point and then ends the game by rolling a 7. When a 7-out occurs, don't be one of the many who yell, "Oh, man, he crapped out!" This tells everyone, including the dealers and boxman, that you don't know the game as well as you think. When the dealers learn of your inexperience, they have better luck influencing your bets. So, when a shooter rolls a 7-out, call it a "seven-out," not a "craps."

In terms of a decision that ends the game, once a point is established, the only relevant numbers are the point number and 7. All other numbers are meaningless in terms of a decision to end the game. If the shooter rolls the point number to end the game, she gets to use the same dice to start a new game, or she may choose to select another pair from the stickman's dish. However, if the shooter makes her point, those dice are usually considered lucky so you'll seldom see a shooter asking for a new pair. If the shooter rolls a 7-out to end the game, the stickman empties all the dice from his dish and uses his stick to push them all to the next shooter. The new shooter selects two, and the stickman pulls the remaining dice back and places them in his dish. A new game, with a new come-out roll, is about to start.

The game of craps that is played today is around 200 years old. Craps systems are about 15 minutes younger. Trying to come up with a system to win consistently at craps is equivalent to trying to invent a perpetual motion machine. The purpose of a craps system is to use various techniques to overcome the house edge. This is impossible, since the house edge is tied directly to the outcome on all dice rolls. Other flaws that craps systems are based on include such things as the gambler's fallacy (the incorrect belief that an event that is overdue is more likely to happen) or the reverse gambler's fallacy (the belief that an event that happens frequently means it will continue to occur). Since each roll of the dice is independent of every other roll, these beliefs are totally erroneous. In other words, dice don't have a memory.

Over the long run, the best any craps system can hope for is to help limit the player's losses, having said that, it is possible for any system to be a winner in the short term. Probability says the results should be five heads and five tails, but the 10 coin flips are such a small sample that large swings in results are expected). Like the 3-Way Craps bet, when you win a Horn bet, you win on the number that shows and lose the other three bets. If a 2 shows, the payoff is 30:1; and your 3, 11, and 12 lose. If a 12 shows, the payoff is 30:1; and your 2, 3, and 11 lose. If a 3 shows, the payoff is 15:1; and your 2, 11, and 12 lose. If an 11 slows, the payoff is 15:1; and your 2, 3, and 12 lose. The boxes for the 2, 3, 11, and 12 are clearly marked in the proposition area. Since the dealer controls the Horn bet (keep your hands off), he puts one fourth of your chips in each of the 2, 3, 11, and 12 boxes. (Some layouts include a box for the Horn bet.)

Be careful making Horn bets that don't result in whole numbers after being split (i.e., when the dealer divides your chips into four equal amounts). This article is intended for anyone that desires to improve his or her game of chess. It is clearly not the aim of this article to show you how to be the greatest chess player in the world or how to get your rating over 2000. If you want to win at chess just follow what I say in this letter and you will attain significant results.

First I suggest that you buy or borrow a book entitled "A primer of Chess" by Capablanca. It is my opinion that Capablanca (Capa) was the greatest chess player in history. Read it three times cover to cover.

It is imperative that you gain control of the center of the board and keep it. If you do not the game is lost. Make sure that before you touch any piece that you look at the next move that each adjacent piece will make contingent on the piece that you move and where you move it. No one can keep their eye and mind all over the board. If you try you will expend too much energy and grow tired by trying to second guess all of your opponents moves. Focus on the next move and its impact on adjacent pieces.

As you bring out your pieces (pawns are not pieces) make sure that you only move the piece once. Make sure that every move you make is a single move for each piece until all the pieces are out, and then castle. Try and have all of the piece out and castled by the eighth move and no later than the tenth. If this is the only piece of advice that you heed you will find that your game performance will be up 50%.

Now when it comes to taking pieces always go for the exchange. The rule is exchange knights first then bishops. This is the reason why and few people ever explain this. Knights are at their best when the board is filled with pawns and pieces because it is oafish in movement. It is extremely clumsy and awkward but on a cluttered board its power is greater than that of a queen! (See "The Immortal" a chess game played in 1851 by Adolf Anderssen where he sacrifices his queen in order to secure checkmate with a knight!) No other piece has the ability to jump over pieces like the knight does. It is this unique quality that makes the knight most effective during the start of the game, when the board is cluttered. As the board clears and it becomes open the knights lose their power in proportion to the bishops gaining. That is why bishops are valued more, because they are used later in the game. It is impossible to escape the wrath of the bishops on an open board; they are like ray guns perpetually shooting at you.

When the chance comes to exchange pieces do so and of course take any stray piece that is offered to you. Your goal is to clear the board so that you can march the pawns. That is the true secret to the game of chess.

The king and pawns are what the game of chess is all about not the pieces, however, everyone else thinks just the oppositely. Most people do not care if they lose a pawn or two, as long as they have their piece. This is where you can gain tremendous ground. Let your opponent exchange and when he or she does try and make the exchange move so that the pawn is moved closer to the center of the board. Also, try and prevent the pawns from doubling up (stacked) this may cost you the game.

When you can, try and exchange the queens. Almost everyone hates to exchange their queen but do it. It is in your favor because your opponent feels weaker (and there is no substance to support that) and you can then more quickly with the advancement of your pawns.

Now is the time to close in on your win. Move your king close to the middle pawns and keep the king in front of the pawns. Do not let the opponent's king get in front of your advancing pawns. This is especially true if there is only one pawn and it is yours. If the opponent's king is ever able to get in front of your single pawn and it is near the center of the board your will not win. Keep the king at the center and in front of your pawns at all times.

Finally, as you advance your pawns make sure that the squares that are adjacent to your king's are always three in a row. In other works the side of the king take 3 spaces and the other king is not able to approach those spots. Use that space as an aisle to advance your pawn to queen. Your opponent will have no ability to stop the queening of your pawn.

Warning. It is always advisable after you have queened your pawn to keep checking your opponent's king as you move in on the mate because often the game ends up as a stale mate due to your opponent's king not being able to move and yet not being in check. This is a very common mistake.

With this advise you will find that your game is much improved. Enjoy.

If you have ever played craps, you probably noticed the don’t pass betting area that wraps around the table right beside the pass line. Chances are that no one had a bet on it either. This does not mean that it is a bad bet. In fact, the don’t pass is the best bet on the craps table.

Mathematically, with a don’t pass bet the casino only has a 1.36 % advantage over you. Once a point is established, and you can lay odds against the point number, the house advantage begins to drop dramatically. If you lay double odds, the advantage for the casino is 0.45%.

So why is it that you so rarely see players betting the don’t pass? First of all, it is poorly promoted by casinos as an option. When you walk up to the table and ask how to play, the dealer will tell you to make a pass line bet. It’s not unheard of for a dealer to suggest the don’t pass, but it is done infrequently.

Secondly, people often are not interested in playing the don’t pass. They feel that they are betting against the shooter and that this is rude and will bring them bad luck. To be honest, a don’t pass bet is betting against the shooter. The person throwing the dice is trying to roll the point number before rolling a seven. However, the don’t pass bet will win if the seven DOES roll before the point number is repeated.

Although business and social forces discourage don’t pass betting, it remains an option on the game and there is no reason not to play it. The seven is the most common number that the dice are going to roll and this means it is more likely that the don’t pass will win when there is a point number.

The toughest part about winning on the don’t pass is during the come out roll. At this stage of the game the don’t pass will lose when a seven or eleven roll. But if your bet can survive the threat posed by the seven during the come out roll, then you have an excellent chance of winning.

Sometimes don’t pass players are so concerned about surviving the come out roll that they place proposition bets on any seven, eleven, and/or twelve. Their strategy is to recoup the loss on the don’t pass with a win from the proposition bet, but DO NOT do this. Hedging your bets is only a good idea with political contributions and should not be done in a casino. All proposition bets are a waste of money and should only be played purely for fun. Playing the don’t pass often requires patience. You make your don’t pass bet, lay your odds bet, and then have to wait for the seven to roll before the point number. It might actually take a while for the don’t pass to win because many rolls of numbers inconsequential to your bet might be rolled before you win. With this patience factor in don’t pass betting, it can be too tedious for some people to enjoy.

Even if don’t pass betting lacks the glamour of pass line bets, it is the best bet on the table according to the mathematics of probability. Playing the don’t pass is not meant for those rare times when a craps table is full of screaming players who are winning fantastically. This is a hot table in which the shooter is actually rolling the point numbers, and you definitely should not be on the don’t pass when this happens. Fortunately, it is easy to switch to the pass line if you want to do so because you can pick up your don’t pass bet whenever you want. You are not required to leave it there like a pass line bet.

Believe it or not while you may hear all of the hollering and yelling at the craps table, there are certain unwritten rules of etiquette that are expected to be followed. The first rule is to be courteous to dealers, casino staff and other players. Casinos do their best to promote the image of playing craps as being exciting and fun, but sometimes a player who has had too much to drink may take the party atmosphere too seriously and be just too wild.

When you first walk up to the table wait to buy your chips until the shooter is done shooting or until the dealer asks if you want to "buy-in." Always place your cash on the table and NEVER try to hand it to the dealer. The dealer is not allowed to take money directly from any player and vice versa. All transactions must be on the felt layout so that the infamous eye in the sky can ensure there is no funny business going on between a dealer and the player. Once you put your cash on the table tell the dealer "change only please." Otherwise, it may be considered a bet.

The dealer will then take your money and lay it out so that the box person can see how much it is and then the dealer will place you chips either in front of you or on the Come area of the layout. The box person will then put your cash in the cash box through a hole in the table. It is kind of the casinos way of telling you to say "bye-bye" to your money. They will use a lot of psychological tricks to keep your cash.

Once the dealer places your chips in front of you it is your responsibility to pick-up your chips and place them in the chip rack. If you do not remove your chips from the table, it may be considered a bet. Don't worry about hurrying to remove your chips from the table too much because the dealers will give you plenty of time to pick up your chips from the layout. The stickperson will keep the dice in the middle of the table until the dealers are finished paying the winning bets, collecting the losing bets or making change for new players (and for people who need to reach into their pockets to buy more chips).

Always, always, always keep your hands above the chip rack (above the rail). Do not let your hands or fingers hang over the edge of the table. Many players are superstitious and believe that if the dice accidentally hit your hand or fingers that it will cause a 7 to appear. It is bad luck to let the dice hit another person's hands or fingers. This is why you will see other players getting very upset if someone is reaching in at the last moment to make a bet.

When you are the shooter, use only one hand to hold the dice. Do not rub the dice with both hands. The casinos do not allow players to rub the dice with both hands because it grinds the edges. Using one hand to control the dice also helps to assure the table crew that you are not trying to switch dice or that you are not a dice mechanic (a player who replaces the official casino dice with crooked dice).

Do not spend an excessive amount of time setting the dice or going through any lengthy routine. The other players and dealers will expect a person to roll the dice within 3 to 4 seconds of receiving them from the stick person.

Always be nice to the dealers. Always toke the dealers. If the dealers are rude or not courteous to you, you have the option to leave the table or the casino. For the most part the dealers are nice and will help you - - so long as you treat them fairly. I routinely toke the dealers after a win and generally ask them where they want to place their tokes as a bet. A live casino craps table is typically manned by a crew of four people. The "boxman" sits at the center of the table by the casino's chip stack. Her job is to control the game, ensure the dealers don't make mistakes, and to protect the casino and players from cheats and thieves. Two dealers stand to the sides of the boxman. They collect bets when the casino wins and pay bets when the players win. After all, the more fun the players have, the better mood they'll be in, which increases the likelihood that the players will make more bets (good for the casino) and give the dealers more tips (good for the crew). To liven up the game, instead of boringly saying, "No roll," a good stickman might say in a loud, rhythmic voice, "Die in the wood, roll no good," or "I can't read her, she's in the cedar." The game is much more fun when the stickman spouts all kinds of craps jargon and rhymes.

Over the years, dealers have dreamed up lots of cute slang for the results of a dice roll. The following are the ones I commonly hear when playing. I suspect that there are just as many that I haven't heard. Listen for them the next time you play. The number 2 (i.e., a 1 on one die and a 1 on the other) is called "aces." Aces are more commonly known as "snake eyes." They are also called "eyeballs."

The number 11 (i.e., a 6 on one die and a 5 on the other) is called a "yo," which is short for "yo-leven" (with emphasis on the "yo"). The stickman says "yo-leven" to distinguish "eleven" from "seven" so the players don't misunderstand the call.

The number 3 is an "Australian yo." When a 3 shows (i.e., a 1 on one die and a 2 on the other), the opposite number (i.e., the number on the bottom of the dice) is 11, which is "down under." On dice, 1 is opposite the 6, 2 is opposite the 5, and 3 is opposite the 4. So, when a 1-2 combination shows, the opposite side "down under" (i.e., the bottom of the dice) is 6-5.

The number 12 is called "boxcars" or "midnight."

The combination 3-3 (i.e., a Hard 6) is sometimes called "Brooklyn Forest."

The numbers 2, 3, and 12 are all called "craps." Note that when a shooter establishes a point and then subsequently throws a 7, it's called a "seven-out." A seven-out is not a craps. Remember, a craps is the number 2, 3, or 12, so when the shooter rolls a 7, don't show your inexperience by yelling in disappointment, "Oh, man, he crapped out." The correct whine is, "Oh, man, he sevened-out."

The number 8 is sometimes referred to as "Eighter from Decatur."

The number 9 is sometimes referred to as "Jesse James" (he was shot with a.45, and the 4-5 dice combination is a 9). The number 9 is also called "Studio 54" when the dice combination 5-4 shows (the combination 5-4 is a 9).

The combination 4-4 (i.e., a Hard 4) is sometimes called "Little Joe."

The combination 3-2 is sometimes called "OJ" (OJ's jersey number was 32).

The combination 5-5 (i.e., a Hard 10) is called "lady's delight."

The combination 1-4 is occasionally called "One-eyed chicken in the weeds." I don't have a clue what that means, and neither did the dealer when I asked him. He said he learned it years earlier from another dealer and has since repeated it.

Hearing the stickman bark funny craps jargon makes the game more fun. It also gets the players to interact more, which usually adds to their enjoyment. Imagine the shooter rolling the dice and they show a 1-4 combination. Imagine the stickman blandly saying, "Five." Now, instead, imagine the stickman shouting, "One-eyed chicken in the weeds!" There is no best or worst style, none of them is any better than the other. It is just important that you recognize which one describes you, then plan your strategy for play and money management accordingly, and realize what you want to accomplish. It is not enough to say I have "X" amount of dollars to lose and just go play. You really aren't taking your money to lose; you are taking it to win. And while this may just be a matter of semantics, why not plan to win according to your style?

Learn to Play Casino Craps - The Craps and Eleven Bet

Be smart, play smart, learn how to play casino craps the right way!

The C&E ("Craps and Eleven") bet is a one-roll bet combining Any Craps with the number 11. On the table layout, each little "C" circle (for an Any Craps bet) has a little "E" circle adjacent to it ("E" stands for Eleven). Since the dealer controls the C&E bet (keep your hands off), he puts half your chips in the Any Craps circle (the "C" circle) and half in the Eleven circle (the "E" circle).

If a 2, 3, or 12 shows on the next roll, the payoff is 7:1; and your 11 loses. If an 11 shows, the payoff is 15:1; and your Any Craps loses.

If you make a C&E bet that can't be divided into two whole numbers, the dealer straddles the two "C" and "E" circles with your chips. Be careful making C&E bets that don't result in whole numbers after being split. If you win and the resulting payoff includes a fraction of a dollar, the casino can't pay you that fraction, so they keep it for themselves.

An example of where a fractional bet results in a whole number payoff is the $5 C&E. The dealer can't split your $5 chip into whole-dollar halves ($5 divided by 2 = $2.50; the casino doesn't have 50-cent chips), so he straddles the "C" and "E" circles with your $5 chip. If an 11 shows on the next roll, the payoff is 15:1 so you win $37.50 (i.e., 15 x $2.50 = $37.50), and you lose $2.50 for the Any Craps portion of your C&E bet; therefore, your net win is $35, which is a whole number that the dealer can pay in full. If a 2, 3, or 12 shows (i.e., Any Craps), the payoff is 7:1 so you win $17.50 (i.e., 7 x $2.50 = $17.50), and you lose $2.50 for the Eleven portion of your C&E bet; therefore, your net win is $15, which is a whole number.

C&E bets that don't result in whole numbers after being split can be confusing, so it's best to simply toss the dealer an even-numbered amount of chips to avoid dealing with fractions of dollars.
